Our Story

A few years ago, Rachel (Photographer/ Director) asked Dawn (Performer/Producer) if she'd like to do an impromptu photoshoot while camping. With no shower in sight, no makeup, and no tancy clothing, it was just Dawn as she was. But when Dawn saw the image, she was surprised and said,

"Whoa, she is strong!"

They started talking about why as women we don't see our strengths until we see ourselves through someone else's lens - why we don't acknowledge the stories that make us who we are and the impact they have on our whole being.

And so 'She is Strong' was born: a show that fuses photography with aerial dance and real stories, has toured to great acclaim, leaving a lasting impact on communities. and now it's Balingup's turn, and we invite local ladies to be a part of this chapter.

Your Story/How it Works-

It starts with a relaxed chat over a cup of tea. You don't need to prepare anything.

Rachel and Dawn will guide you to share a story about yourselt, that you are comtortable with.

These stories will be recorded on a phone and edited together into a tapestry of local women's voices. Rachel will take photos of you in local outdoor locations. It might be of your hands, your face looking at the paddock, or doing something you love; something which reflects your story.

These photoshoots are very relaxed and often include lots of laughs. Then the images and audio will become be a part of the opening exhibition for 'She is Strong' in June.

Your photos will be made available to you following the show, to remind you of your strength and to thank you for being involved in the process.
